Been a while since I’ve posted but I’ve actually been fairly busy since I left college! I’ve gone from having 0 jobs to having 3! One unpaid and 2 paid and god do I not miss being out of work!

So anyway, I’ll get straight to it… A friend of my sister (Helen Brown) set up her own fashion website 3 years ago and it’s going pretty well I have to say… I would explain the concept but what better way than for Helen to explain it herself! So you get the concept from the video but for anyone who didn’t watch it basically this website is designed to fund designers by their own fans… I compare it to how Barcelona are fan-funded but this is fashion…

The hardest thing for a designer before they get properly started is to build up the funds for their collection. Catwalk Genius is unique in the way it helps fund the designers collection and also helps the fans feel a part of the whole production. It doesn’t cost the up and coming designer to get started, Catwalk Genius takes 15-33% of their retail price of their current sales through the site. Once a fan-funded collection goes on sale, the revenues are split equally between designer, supporters and Catwalk Genius. Sometimes an affiliate commission of 10% applies (designers could also earn that). Shareholders also get extra benefits when a designer reaches their target

Katie Eary - First Ever solely Fan-Funded Fashion Designer

Katie Eary, a Fashion designer from Stevenage, UK, will be the first designer to be funded solely by fans. Katie’s target was a modest £5,000 to get started and will no doubt pave the way for more fan-funded designers.

Also, I’ve attached a picture of Miss Lady Gaga wearing one of Katie’s pieces from her A/W 2009 collection – kind of a big deal!!!!!!!
